Crochet Cotton Shelf Basket with Wood Base, Rectangular

Woven baskets are rigid; fabric bins sag. This one sits in between. The sides are crocheted from thick cotton yarn, which is soft to the touch and quiet on a shelf, and the base is a piece of birch plywood, which is why the basket stays rectangular and slides in and out of a cube shelf without catching.

Size

12 in long, 8 in wide, 6 in tall, measured on the outside. It fits side by side in a 13 in cube shelf and on any bookshelf 8 in deep or more. Because each basket is made by hand, expect up to a quarter inch of variation.

Material

Cotton t-shirt yarn (recycled cotton jersey cut into a continuous strand) worked in a tight stitch, over a 0.2 in birch plywood base sanded smooth. The cotton is Oeko-Tex certified. The taupe color is a warm neutral gray that goes with oak, walnut and white furniture.

Care

Hand wash in cold water with a mild, bleach-free soap, press out the water and leave it to dry flat with the base up. Do not machine wash or tumble dry; the plywood base should not be soaked.
