Tip: Install the exact edition you bought before entering the key. A Professional key will not activate a Home installation – this is the most common reason activation fails.
Activating a Microsoft licence takes a couple of minutes. This covers Windows and Office separately, because the steps differ.
Before you start
Have your product key to hand. It arrived in the email we sent when your order was delivered, and it is twenty five characters in five blocks. Make sure the machine is connected to the internet if you can, because online activation is quicker and needs no further steps.
Check you are installing the same edition you bought. A Professional key will not activate a Home installation, and this is the single most common reason activation fails.
Activating Windows
Open Settings, then System, then Activation. If Windows is not yet activated you will see a Change product key option. Click it, enter your twenty five character key and confirm.
Windows contacts Microsoft, verifies the key and activates. The Activation screen then reads that Windows is activated with a digital licence.
If you are installing Windows fresh, you can enter the key during setup when it asks for one. That works just as well and saves a step.
Activating Office
Open any Office application, such as Word or Excel. Go to File, then Account. Choose Activate Product or Change Product Key, enter your key and confirm.
You may be asked to sign in with a Microsoft account. For most retail Office licences that is expected, because the licence is tied to that account and it is how you reinstall later without needing the key again.
If your machine has no internet connection
Both Windows and Office offer telephone activation. Microsoft shows you a long Installation ID and asks you to call and read it out in exchange for a Confirmation ID.
This is a normal, supported process and it does not mean your key is faulty. If you reach that screen, contact us and we will help you through it.
After activation
Keep your order number. It is all we need to identify your licence if you ever want a replacement under the lifetime warranty, and it is more useful to us than the key itself.

Activation questions
Where do I enter my Office product key?
For a new install, go to setup.office.com, sign in with a Microsoft account and enter the 25-character key. The site links your key to the account and gives you the official download. You only do this once – afterwards Office stays signed in.
How do I change the product key on Windows 11?
Open Settings, then System, then Activation, and choose Change product key. Enter the new 25-character key and confirm. Windows verifies it with Microsoft and activates in under a minute.
Do I need to keep the key after activation?
Keep the delivery email. Windows keys attach a digital licence to the machine, and Office keys attach to your Microsoft account, but the original key is your proof of purchase and is needed if you ever reinstall from scratch.
